Stress and Anxiety

Today I will talk to you about stress and anxiety, two great silent evils that make us sick and kill us.

Let's start by identifying when a person is stressed. Behaviors that manifest stress are: bad mood, irritability, anger, anxious thoughts, dizziness, nausea, general unhappiness, loneliness and feeling overwhelmed.

The manifestations of anxiety are: restlessness, tension, sweating, nervousness, and a feeling of fear.

And if you have both: faster heart rate, rapid breathing, diarrhea or constipation.

These two factors, which are very common in our society, have become a pandemic derived from the current lifestyle and constitute one of the greatest risks of mortality and diseases of all kinds.

It is not for nothing that stress has been called the “silent killer,” because we get used to living with it and stop doing anything to solve the issues that trigger it.

On the other hand, anxiety is also one of the ills of our time, and since the pandemic it has spread throughout the population. Not only adults, but also young people and children suffer from it and they are often confused with each other. Although one can lead to the other, it is important to know and distinguish their main characteristics in order to understand and manage them.

Prevention is an ideal way to help ourselves and others to avoid falling into these two conditions that so affect our emotional and physical health.

The practical and recommended ways to avoid or prevent stress and anxiety are “Mindfulness” techniques, mental silence (stop looking outside and look inside) and regular exercise such as walking for more than 30 minutes, riding a bicycle, playing paddle tennis, swimming and any other sport that allows us to perform physical activities.

All of this contributes to improving our overall health and providing an outlet for the accumulation of tensions and conflicts that we generate and store within ourselves in the form of stress and anxiety.

Take action to prevent or reduce these two “evils” that today more than ever influence your well-being and affect your health and your life in general.
