Selfish happiness doesn't work.

The “Me, me, me…” all day long makes you miserable, and obviously you’re going to make everyone around you miserable. It feels bad and it’s at odds with harsh reality.

We are not separate beings, who can build our lives in a little bubble or corner, and then others can do whatever they want.

Reality is interdependent, and the ultimate state of mind is the awareness that there is only one. Others are part of your individual reality, so what you do to them you do to yourself.

The most satisfying emotion in temporal life is the love of yourself in others, they call it altruistic love, kindness, compassion and benevolence.

“Altruistic” means that you value others as much as you value yourself. You care about whether they are well, whether they are suffering, and you feel their pain. If you discover that there is something that could be improved for their well-being and happiness, or to eliminate their suffering, you will have the intention to do something about it.

You may not be able to do it, but your intention is altruistic. Altruism is in the intention, also called motivation. Of course, if you can, it will be followed by action.

That is the best way to benefit others by seeking love for yourself in them.

And, conversely, as an advantage, it is the best way to find happiness! It is like a side effect. Your own happiness will come from the happiness of others, because you are in them or they are part of you.
