Delegating: A superpower of leadership

A few days ago, in a board meeting, a leader confessed to me:
👉 “I prefer to do it myself, that way I know it will turn out perfect.”

This phrase reflects a common mistake among many leaders: confusing excellence with absolute control.

True leadership isn't measured by the number of tasks you take on, but by your ability to amplify results through others. That only happens when you learn to delegate strategically.

📌 The 70% rule

If someone on your team can perform a task according to your standard 70%, it's time to delegate!
It's not about complacency. It's about making room for learning and growth, and freeing up your time for strategic thinking.

🏆 Golden rule for effective delegation
1. Provide context: explain the purpose, not just the instruction.
2. Secure resources: time, training, and tools.
3. Define clear expectations.
4. Establish constant feedback.
5. Guide with patience, without micromanaging.
6. Recognize achievements: celebrating boosts commitment.
7. Schedule revisions: reinforce alignment.

⏳ The Eisenhower Matrix

A strategic leader distinguishes:
✅ Important + Urgent → Do it now
🗓️ Important + Not urgent → Plan it
🤝 Not important + Urgent → Delegalize it
❌ Not important + Not urgent → Delete it

🪜 Five levels of delegation

Delegating is not black and white: define the right autonomy.
1. Follow exact instructions.
2. Complete and review the following action.
3. Recommend and act with validation.
4. Act and report afterwards.
5. Act with complete independence.

This way you not only delegate tasks, but you also develop leaders within your team.

🎯 The “who, what, when” framework”
• Who: clear responsible party.
• What: a specific and measurable task.
• When: defined deadline.

👉 Delegating doesn't mean losing control. It means multiplying your impact, developing talent, and ensuring sustainability.
A leader who does not delegate becomes a bottleneck.
The leader who does delegate, on the other hand, becomes a creator of leaders.

💡 Key question for every leader:
• Does your leader delegate to you and allow you to grow?
• As a leader, are you focused on strategy or stuck on tasks that your team could execute and learn?
